Don't Give 110%...

September 24 2007 by Andrew Powell
Beyond the geek response of "It's impossible to give 110%", there are other reasons you should not push yourself this hard. If you try to give a task "110%", you are pushing yourself too hard and much more prone to make mistakes. Plain and simple. I would rather have a steady concerted effort than a stressed out push full of mistakes. I want someone on my team who can give me 100% of their effort on a consistant basis rather than someone who gives 80-90% (or less), consistantly, then tries to push the last little bit with a "110%" effort. Focus and do the best you can within your abilites. The results will be much better than if you push yourself beyond your limits.

Interesting post, at first I thought you were way off here. Giving 110% at certain times is certainly necessary. No one got anywhere by giving 100% all of the times. Opportunities take more than that sometimes. But then I thought about it and I think you have a good rationale.
